The first day of testing saw all of the candidates training and testing on rank specific material needed for advancement.  This included traditional basic hand and foot techniques and advanced combinations.  Following over an hour of drilling on basics and combinations, the candidates worked on traditional Tang Soo Do hyung.  This part of the training saw the Sam Dan Candidates working on Lo Hai and Naihanchi Sam Dan Hyung and the Ee Dan Candidates worked on Chinto and Naihanchi Ee Dan as well as Chil Sung Sa Ro. The Cho Dan Candidates worked on Basai Dai, Nahianchi Cho Dan and Chil Sung Sam Ro hyung.

Additionally, all of the Yu Dan Ja worked on Kong Sang Kong So, which Master Garbowsky began teaching as part of his curriculum in 2005 when he founded South Hills Karate Academy. Following the hyung training the Dan Candidates worked on advanced Ill So Shik Dae Ryun and the Yu Dan Ja worked on their self-defense against weapons and Bun Hae Ki Sul (Bunkai Jutsu), which is actual fighting techniques derived from the traditional and Chil Sung hyung sets. Regarding, the Bun Hai Ki Sul work the Yu Dan Ja were required to demonstrate their own interpretations of the combative techniques contained in their required hyung for advancement.

Some of these Bun Hai Ki Sul demonstrations were rather impressive with Mr. Denny Pruni and Kyo Sa Eric Irson demonstrating fighting techniques derived from Chil Sung Sa Ro Hyung. Others Yu Dan Ja demonstrated Bun Hae Ki Sul from Chinto and Naihanchi Ee Dan hyung, with Mrs. Christine Wilson and Kyo Sa Dan Wilson putting on a great demonstration with a little twist on how a Tang Soo Do practitioners should fight with their spouse, which was executed with proper Moo Do attitude. Finally Master Garbowsky introduced the entire testing group to Shishi Jang Bong Hyung (Shishi No Kon), one of the Rokushakubudo "bo staff" forms taught in traditional Okinawan Kubodo (traditional weapons).

Saturday, July 29th saw the candidates present for testing at South Hills Karate Academy. Friday afternoon the area where South Hills Karate Academy is located was hit with a flash flood.  Although Master Garbowsky had a tremendous amount help from students, parent and friends he was at the school until 3:00am trying to get things cleaned up for the testing event.

Despite the flooding, all of the candidates demonstrated the Independent Tang Soo Do Association's required curriculum, including breaking and free sparring against individual and multiple opponents. With support and encouragement from Master Garbowsky and Yu Dan Ja members of South Hills Karate Academy, each of the candidates performed superbly as they were well prepared for the entire experience. Saturday morning's testing finished up the 10 hour, 2 day testing experience for the candidates.
