Master Keiko Mason,
Dan # 19023 became her husband’s (Master Ted
Mason)Tang Soo Do student on August 13, 1968 soon after
the first two of her four children began training.
She soon became her husband’s best student and
attained Cho Dan in 1973. She has been his assistant
instructor sharing her knowledge of the Chinese
Characters associated with Asian Martial Arts.
After joining the newly formed U.S. Tang Soo Do Moo
Duk Kwan Federation in 1976, she served as the
interpreter during meetings between Grandmaster
Hwang Kee and Master Victor Martinov, who was the
Chairman of the Board of Directors.
She dominated local tournaments in the early 1970s
winning both form and sparring competition in the
women’s divisions. As a red belt, she won third
place in a 1971 form competition at the Naval
Training Center in San Diego. This division included
both men and women of all ranks and she scored
higher than many black belts.
Her last competition was at the 1986 National Soo
Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation Championships where
she took third place in the Senior 3rd Dan Form
competition which she had won the year before.
She was selected as an “Outstanding Member” of the
U.S. Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation in 1997 and
continues to assist her husband with the operation
of their studio,
Oceanside Soo Bahk Do in Oceanside,
California.
