Master
Garbowsky began his Tang Soo Do training in the
early 1980’s in Pittsburgh, PA. He received his 1st
Dan in 1988 under Grandmaster Chun Sik Kim, founder
of the International Tang Soo Do Federation. During
the 1990’s while attending Penn State University he
added to his martial arts resumé
by training in Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Shotokan Karate,
Kick boxing and boxing. Although known as an
outstanding sparring competitor Master Garbowsky has
also won numerous forms grand championships
including the late Grandmaster Ki Whang Kim’s famous
Eagle Classic in 1995.
In
1991 he opened his first Tang Soo Do school in State
College, PA. He has also owned and operated Tang
Soo Do schools in North Huntingdon, PA and
Pittsburgh, PA. In 2005 he opened South Hills
Karate Academy which is located in the South Hills
of Pittsburgh, PA and has a branch location in
Elizabeth, PA
Over
the years Master Garbowsky has had numerous
opportunities to train, practice and attend seminars
with some of the most notable Tang Soo Do
Grandmasters and Masters in the world today. In
October of 2007, Master Garbowsky invited world
renowned Grandmaster Andy Ah Po to conduct a series
of special clinics for Ko Dan Ja and Yu Dan Ja at
his "2007 Tang Soo Do Fall Weekend in Pittsburgh",
and to preside over South Hills Karate Academy's 1st
Dan Testing. It was after this event that Master
Garbowsky was accepted by Grandmaster Ah Po as a
direct student and Ko Dan Ja member in the Tang Soo
Do Martial Way Association.
In
October 2008, Master Garbowsky was awarded 5th Dan
by Grandmaster Ah Po at the 2nd Annual Fall Weekend
in Pittsburgh event. This was after an extensive
testing procedure involving four days of intensive
evaluation by Kwan Jang Nim Ah Po during Master
Garbowsky’s trip to Sacramento in January of 2008.
Master
Garbowsky also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree
from the Pennsylvania State University (1992). In
addition to devoting the majority of his life to
teaching Tang Soo Do, he also developed a successful
professional business career where he has held
various sales and sales management positions.
Additionally, he has also developed and delivered
numerous motivational sales presentations and
seminars across the United States.
