Master MacDermott began studying Tang Soo Do in
Bridgewater, MA in 1973 under the instruction of
Thomas Sylvester, 2nd Dan Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo
Do. In 1980 Mr. MacDermott received his Black
Belt and began teaching.
He
received his 2nd degree in 1986, his 3rd degree
in 1991, his 4th degree in January of 1996
(under the instruction of Master Richard Byrne
of the ATA) and his 5th Degree in December 2006
(under the instruction of Master Victoria
DeMarco, 6th degree Moo Duk Kwan, Tang Soo Do).
In
1991 Master MacDermott was voted Black Belt of
the Year and in 1992, was voted into the
American Tang Soo Do Hall of Fame.
Master MacDermott is also an experienced teacher
of the handicapped and has used Tang Soo Do as a
method of improving flexibility and
coordination. He has been teaching in
Bridgewater for almost 30 years and has owned
and operated MacDermott’s Tang Soo Do
Association for over 25 years. He offers
traditional Tang Soo Do classes, a high energy
kickboxing class, and women’s self defense
clinics to the towns of Bridgewater and West
Bridgewater annually.
Master MacDermott joined the Bridgewater Police
Department in 1984. He holds a Master’s Degree
in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College, a
Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from
Stonehill College, and an Associate’s Degree
from Massasoit Community College.
Prior to 1984, he was a member of the Lakeville
Police Department. In 1985 and again in 1991, he
was cited as Patrolman of the Year. In 1990, he
was also voted Patrolman of the Year for his
department by Mothers Against Drunk Driving. In
September of 1996, Master MacDermott was
promoted to the rank of Detective on the
Bridgewater Police Force.
